Hengistbury Head Long Groyne Long Term Monitoring
Hengistbury Head Long Groyne Long Term Monitoring Ecological Survey
Client: Bournemouth, Christchurch, Poole Council & Boskalis
In the spring and summer of 2024, Hengistbury Head Long Groyne (HHLG) underwent repair and design to increase the groyne height by 1.5m along the crest and widening of the footprint of the existing structure to increase stability. A variety of intertidal and subtidal ecological enhancement units were incorporated into the new groyne structure including concrete, limestone and granite artificial rockpools and concrete artificial reef units.
The aim of these surveys was to conduct an ecological survey of Hengistbury Head long groyne post installation of ecological enhancement interventions. Intertidal surveys and and subtidal dive and video surveys are conducted to assess the biodiversity of the groyne and ecological enhancement units.
