The purpose of this project was to assess the success of three artificial rockpools commercially named “Tide Pools“ installed at the North Portsea Island Coastal Defence Scheme in 2019.

During the coastal defence construction process several enhancements were trialed including installing three 1m3 precast artificial rockpools situated within rock armour placed on recreated mudflat. This survey compared the communities within the artificial Tide Pools to the adjacent rock armour and adjacent mudflat.

Water parameters were also recorded to ascertain any variation in temperature, pH and salinity between water retained in the Tide Pools and the natural seawater.
